Really Dissappointed

I called the hospital this morning to set up my tour of the birth center and to schedule Kay's sibling preparation class and found out that because its RSV season, and because of the H1N1 no children under 12 (even siblings) will not be allowed on any patient floors of the hospital. This breaks my heart that Kay wont be able to come see her baby sister after she is born. That's one of those moments I have been dreaming about. I feel so sad because I WANT her there!! Not for the actual birth, but immediately after. I know shes not going to like it much either knowing that mommy is gone having the baby and she cant come and visit. I mean I understand why they do this, but it sucks big time. I was really really looking forward to those pictures of Kay holding her brand new baby sister in the hospital, all wrapped up in a hospital blanket with her eyes barely open....Now I just have to pray that I at least don't have to have a c-section! I don't want to be stuck there for 4-5 days with out Kay!

Time to come up with some creative ideas to help make her feel included, with out her actually being there : (

Poor Kay...any chance of those rules changing before the baby is due? You could video it and show it to her right away too...

What a huge bummer! The flu was going around when I had Jackson and they told us the same thing in our birth class. And supposedly they were going to check everyone's temp for fever before they could come up to L&D... but they didn't and it wasn't enforced at all. Maybe your hubby will be able to get her in to see her little sis when the time comes:)

Maybe you could give her a big sister party. Like her own little baby shower :). It gives her something to make her feel special.

I do agree it sucks she can't come to the hospital I would be so upset! I would think it would be fine in the maternity area as long as she had symptoms and was not ill.

My aunt is dealing with this right now too. She's having baby Lila by c-section on Nov 3rd and the twins won't be able to be there (they're 4). I'll probably watch them instead of being at the hospital so she doesn't have to worry about them. It's a huge bummer for her too. Stupid hospital rules!

OH No!!! That sucks Lisa I'm so sorry - I hope they change some of the restrictions, but if not I can understand they don't need your lil baby getting sick and then really not being able to come home for awhile..that includes adults as well. I think when you come home you should ask that no vistors come over for few hours this way all the attn is focused on Kay and baby sis and none of your vistors will be grabbing the baby and taking the attn away from Kay and her.. I think thats what I would do if that were to happen to me. take all the pics and stuff you can in those few hours as if you were still at the hopital. Just a suggestion. :0)

I've heard of this.....it really stinks!
I was going to say what Tab said, take a video each day and make sure she gets to watch it before bed each night until you come home.

You can probably download it and email it to whoever is staying with her...it can be her special "sister to sister" time until she gets to meet her baby sis.

Yea..We had the same thing when Brandon was born in Dec. Plus he was in the NICU, so Lex didn't get to see him until we came home. She was upset, but I just explained to her that they wanted to make sure all the babies stay healthy, and she understood. Jason just took lots of pictures for her.

What about a webcam on your lap top? That way Kay can feel like she is there, you can hold the baby up for her and you'll be able to see her then too. Also, you can do it as much as you'd like..even if it's only for 5 minutes. Many new laptops have webcams, or they are pretty reasonable, for only like $20 a Wal-Mart. Wish you the best.
